About the Role
At Serco, we work with Asylum Accommodation and Support Services to help individuals navigate the asylum process — including providing safe, temporary accommodation. As a Maintenance Operative, you’ll play a vital role in keeping our properties safe, functional, and welcoming. You’ll carry out both reactive and planned maintenance tasks, ensuring all works meet the required standards and are completed within agreed SLA deadlines. You’ll take responsibility for the health and safety of yourself, your colleagues, and all property users during and after your work.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete repairs and maintenance tasks (planned, proactive, and reactive) to a high standard.
- Manage and purchase materials via company account card from approved suppliers only.
- Maintain company vehicles in a clean, professional condition and complete regular inspections.
- Ensure compliance with all health and safety requirements.
- Collaborate with colleagues and work independently to meet operational needs.
Working Pattern
Monday to Friday, 7.5 hours per day between 08:00 and 18:00 (flexible to meet business needs).
On‑Call & Out‑of‑Hours
Participation in an out‑of‑hours rota (approx. 1 in every 9–12 weeks) to provide 24/7 emergency cover. Includes a standby allowance plus time‑and‑a‑half for callouts.
What You’ll Need
- Previous maintenance experience in one or more trades such as joinery, plumbing, fitting, painting, and decorating.
- Strong self‑motivation and the ability to manage your own workload.
- Teamwork skills to collaborate effectively when required.
- Willingness and ability to travel within the region and occasionally across the UK.
- Full UK driving licence (essential).
- Ability to pass security clearance checks.
