Project Support Officer
Hybrid based role in Abbey Wood, Bristol – BS 8JH
Monday- Friday- hours per week £ – £ plus benefits

Serco have an exciting opportunity for a Project Support Officer to join our team as part of the Armed Forces Recruitment Service (AFRS). This role is offered on a hybrid basis from our Abbey Wood site based in Bristol.

Working within the Programme Management Office (PMO), this role will support AFRS workstreams, helping to ensure they are delivered in a well organised and professional manner. This will include assisting the PMO and undertaking a range of project support activities, including minute taking; action tracking; risk management; reporting; and supporting the implementation of processes such as change management.

This new approach will, for the first time, see the Royal Navy, the British Army, and the Royal Air Force have a joint Armed Forces Recruitment Service (AFRS). Delivered through a partnership of the MOD, Serco, and our consortium of partners, this service will provide end-to-end support from candidate attraction to assessment, onboarding, and Phase 1 training. Our team brings together best-in-class integrated technology and specialist partners to offer a holistic recruitment and skills solution for the UK Armed Forces, designed to modernise and improve the overall candidate experience. Main Accountabilities:

  • Responsibility to support delivery of workstreams to time and scope
  • Support delivery of single large or multiple smaller initiatives and projects for AFRS
  • Provide input into the project with regards to local knowledge, restrictions, and requirements.
  • Provide a weekly summary progress update via email to key individuals/stakeholders.
  • Minute monthly progress meetings with the workstream leads to inform senior stakeholders of progress of the works, issues affecting the programme and any risks.
  • Provide status reporting regarding project milestones, deliverable, dependencies, risks, and issues, communicating across leadership.
  • Work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment demonstrating teamwork, innovation, and excellence.
  • What you’ll need to do the role:

  • Able to achieve SC clearance
  • A Project Management qualification / certification (, APM, PRINCE2, PMI etc) would be desirable
  • Experience of full lifecycle project delivery in a complex operating environment would be desirable
  • Knowledge of / prior application of industry project delivery methods and standards ( PRINCE2 or equivalent)
  • Knowledge of project methodologies / approaches and their application in a complex business
  • Knowledge of project governance and assurance
  • Knowledge of different business functions/ disciplines (, finance and commercial, operations, safety, risk, HR, operational excellence, IT, sales, marketing, and communications) and comfortable working in a complex environment
  • Advanced MS Office Skills, including Word, , Excel, and PowerPoint. MS Project and Visio skills would be desireable
  • Experience of collaboration, influencing, communication and engagement of a wide range of stakeholders
  • Experience of working in a high-pressure environment and managing multiple demands at once
  • Ability to drive clarity from ambiguity
  • Experience working for an outsourced service provider would be desirable
