Aircraft Paint Sprayer Location: RAF Coningsby, LN4 4TG

Salary: £32,122.22 plus 15% shift allowance per annum and excellent benefits

Schedule: Full time, permanent – 39 hours per week. Two weeks day shift (07:00 – 15:45), followed by two weeks night shift (15:45 – 02:45). Further details will be discussed at interview.

As an Aircraft Paint Sprayer in our Defence team, you’ll help maintain aircraft and essential equipment used in support of national defence. Through expert surface preparation and paint application, you'll play a vital role in ensuring assets are protected, compliant, and ready for service. Your work has purpose. By delivering high-quality finishes on Ministry of Defence aircraft, components and ground equipment, you'll help support operational readiness while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality and care. Every task contributes to a positive impact, helping protect the future capability of critical defence assets and creating trust in the services we deliver.

What you’ll do as an Aircraft Paint Sprayer:

  • Perform surface finishing activities in line with quality procedures and required standards.
  • Carry out manual, chemical and media paint removal processes on aircraft, aircraft components and Ministry of Defence ground assets.
  • Apply high-quality paint finishes using a range of paint schemes and modern paint application equipment.
  • Complete masking, cleaning, pre-treatment and abrasive blasting activities as required.
  • Follow all health, safety, environmental and aviation safety requirements, including Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) regulations and risk assessments.
  • Identify and report defects, corrosion, anomalies or unsafe practices, taking action where necessary to maintain safety and quality standards.

Does this sound like you?

  • You have experience as a Royal Air Force (RAF) Painter and Finisher tradesperson or a time-served civilian equivalent within an aircraft or automotive body shop environment.
  • You hold a full UK driving licence.
  • You can follow detailed procedures and work instructions accurately and consistently.
  • You have a strong focus on quality, safety and attention to detail.
  • An NVQ Level 3 in Aeronautical Engineering (Surface Finish pathway), or equivalent qualification, would be an advantage.

Vetting and checks:

This role requires Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance, which involves verifying your identity, employment history, nationality, and criminal record to meet government security standards. In addition, depending on the nature of the role, you may need to obtain formal Security Clearance (such as CTC or SC), which includes more detailed background checks on employment, criminal record, and financial history to ensure suitability for working in secure environments. Please note that UK residency requirements may apply for certain levels of clearance. You will also complete an Occupational Health Questionnaire so we can identify and provide any support you may need to undertake the role effectively.
