Make a real difference across the UK Defence estate VIVO is looking for a practical, proactive and self-motivated Multi Skilled Operative to join our team supporting Garats Hay and the surrounding Defence estate. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced tradesperson or handyperson to take on a varied, hands-on role where no two days are quite the same. Working across Garats Hay and a second nearby site, approximately 20 minutes apart, you will help keep a range of commercial buildings, offices and facilities safe, well maintained and operating effectively.

The site you work from each day will depend on workload, giving you plenty of variety while allowing you to take real ownership of your work. As a Multi Skilled Operative, you will be responsible for delivering predominantly planned maintenance, alongside occasional reactive maintenance and small works. You will use your practical skills to identify and resolve issues, complete maintenance tasks to a high standard and support the wider team in keeping the estate compliant and in excellent condition.

Joinery-based skills would be particularly useful, although we are flexible on your trade background and are happy to provide training where required. This is a role that offers genuine independence. You will be trusted to schedule your own tasks, plan your working day and manage your workload effectively, rather than having someone constantly directing your activities.

The majority of the role will involve working independently and being the face of VIVO on site, with regular customer-facing interaction as a building custodian. You will need to be approachable, professional and confident when dealing with customers and site users. Although you will predominantly work alone, you will be part of a wider team of five covering the area, with colleagues working together where tasks require two people.

You will also have a work van and fuel card, allowing you to travel between the two sites and carry out your duties effectively. We are looking for someone with previous experience as a handyperson, tradesperson or in a similar practical maintenance environment. The most important thing is having a hands-on approach, being able to solve problems and having the flexibility to turn your skills to a range of maintenance tasks.

Experience of planned maintenance is desirable, particularly a joinery background, but training will be provided where needed. You will also need to be comfortable using a smartphone, tablet and laptop, including Microsoft Office 365 and relevant VIVO systems, with training provided on specific applications. A practical qualification such as City & Guilds or BTEC would be advantageous.

Based at Garats Hay, this is a fantastic opportunity to join VIVO in a role where you can work independently, build strong relationships with customers and take pride in maintaining an important Defence estate. If you are an experienced tradesperson or handyperson who enjoys being hands-on, takes pride in your work and likes having the freedom to organise your own day, we would love to hear from you.

We offer:

  • Work van & fuel card
  • 6% employee matched pension contribution
  • 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays

At VIVO, we are committed to building a diverse and inclusive organisation that supports the needs of all. Therefore, we will make reasonable adjustments at interview through to employment for our candidates and strongly encourage applications from a diverse candidate pool.

We are open to discussions around flexibility and flexible working and operate a hybrid work structure in many of our business areas. We are proudly a Disability Confident Leader. Disabled applicants who meet the minimum criteria for the job will be given the opportunity to demonstrate their abilities at an interview.
