Ready to impact a better future? As a Workshop Mechanic in our team, you’ll repair, maintain, and inspect all Serco commercial vehicles within our fleet maintenance facilities, in accordance with the Driver Vehicle and Standards Agency (DVSA) “Guide to Maintaining Roadworthiness”. You’ll play a key part in keeping our fleet safe and reliable. This is a hands‑on role where you’ll use your expertise to carry out inspections, identify and repair faults, and ensure all vehicles meet DVSA standards.
What you’ll do as a Workshop Mechanic
- Perform maintenance inspections and repairs on all vehicles presented.
- Identify vehicle faults and repair as necessary.
- In consultation with the Workshop Supervisor, ensure all safety inspections are planned at least six months in advance, including all vehicle statutory obligations.
- Ensure all brake tests are completed as required.
- Conduct vehicle test drives after repairs have been completed to verify the vehicle is roadworthy.
- Ensure the workshop is kept clean and well organised to ensure workplace safety.
- Complete all inspection and repair documentation, either manually or electronically, after any work has been completed on the vehicle.
- Work outside of normal working hours when operationally required.

- Full industry‑recognised qualifications (City and Guilds / NVQ Level Three in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair).
- Experience of maintaining large fleets.
- Cat C Driving Licence.
- Experience working on specialist hydraulic systems.
As well as checking eligibility to work in the UK, you will also complete an Occupational Health Questionnaire to help us identify and provide any support you may need to undertake the role effectively.
