Serco have an exciting opportunity for a Marine Manager to join our team based at HMNB Clyde. As a Marine Manager in our DMS – Next Generation Contract, you’ll lead and support our in-port marine operations at Clyde. You’ll ensure our fleet meets the highest standards of safety, professionalism, and compliance – playing a key part in delivering for our customer. This position is a key member of Clyde’s Senior Leadership Team, providing strategic oversight of an operation comprising 13 vessels and supporting 96 seagoing colleagues.

Applications are invited from candidates based within reasonable commuting distance of Faslane and Greenock, with the ability to travel regularly between both locations to meet operational and organisational requirements.

Key responsibilities are:

  • Provide leadership and professional oversight of afloat personnel to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant operations
  • Develop and maintain operational standards through audits, inspections, and continuous professional development
  • Act as the lead for marine safety, regulations, and compliance – both internally and with external stakeholders
  • Plan and advise on training and development to ensure a pipeline of Suitably Qualified and Experienced Personnel (SQEP)
  • Manage marine safety investigations, audits, and contribute to the continuous improvement of our Safety Management System (SMS)
  • Oversee the Clyde Vessel Operating Procedures (VOP) register and drive safety case development for new vessels and procedures

What you’ll need to do the role:

  • A Master Certificate of Competency (Unlimited is desirable)
  • Previous experience in a shore-side Superintendency role
  • Proven sea-going experience as a qualified deck officer, including experience as a Master
  • Up-to-date knowledge of UK statutory and classification regulations, and the International Safety Management (ISM) Code
  • Experience of coaching and developing others, with strong people leadership skills
  • Confidence managing relationships with regulators, harbour authorities, and key stakeholders
  • IT literacy and the ability to analyse and act on marine safety data

Desirable:

  • People management in a unionised environment
  • Operational experience of both MoD and commercial environments
  • Incident investigation

Vetting requirements:

This role requires Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance, which involves verifying your identity, employment history, nationality, and criminal record to meet government security standards. In addition, you will need to obtain formal Security Clearance (such as CTC or SC), which includes more detailed background checks on employment, criminal record, and financial history to ensure suitability for working in secure environments. Please note that UK residency requirements may apply for certain levels of clearance. You will also complete an Occupational Health Questionnaire so we can identify and provide any support you may need to undertake the role effectively.
