We are currently recruiting for three Electrical Engineer & Tester positions to join an established engineering team supporting RAF Fairford and RAF Welford. This is an excellent opportunity for experienced electricians who enjoy a varied role combining planned maintenance, testing, inspection and reactive fault finding within a unique and highly secure Defence environment.
Working predominantly at RAF Fairford, with travel to RAF Welford as required, you will be responsible for maintaining critical electrical infrastructure across a diverse estate that includes commercial buildings, operational facilities, hangars and domestic accommodation. The role offers the chance to work on everything from routine electrical maintenance and testing through to specialist systems supporting Defence operations.
As part of the on-site engineering team, you will carry out planned preventative maintenance, complete Electrical Installation Condition Reports (EICRs), undertake fixed wire testing and perform distribution board inspections across the estate. You will also be responsible for emergency lighting testing, electrical fault diagnosis and repair, minor installation works and a variety of domestic and commercial electrical tasks. Alongside planned works, you will respond to reactive maintenance requests and emergency callouts, ensuring critical assets remain safe, compliant and operational.
One of the unique aspects of this role is the opportunity to work within specialist facilities, including electrical testing activities associated with ESTS 6 explosive storage environments used for munitions, cruise missiles and bomb storage. Candidates with Airfield Ground Lighting (AGL) experience or qualifications will be particularly attractive, as RAF Fairford is an active operational airfield where these skills are highly valued.
Success in this position requires more than technical expertise. You will regularly interact with building custodians and site stakeholders, making strong communication and customer service skills essential. The ability to build positive working relationships, work collaboratively with colleagues and adapt to both independent and team-based tasks will be key to your success.
What you’ll need We are seeking qualified Electrical Engineers who hold NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation, the 18th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification and City & Guilds 2391 Inspection and Testing, or an equivalent testing qualification. Previous experience within commercial environments is highly desirable, particularly within large buildings, industrial facilities, hangars or critical infrastructure environments. Due to the nature of the work, candidates must be eligible to obtain Security Clearance (SC).
The standard working pattern is 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, from 8:00am to 4:30pm. You will also participate in an out-of-hours on-call rota, which provides emergency cover between 4:30pm and 8:00am, including weekends. Engineers are required to respond to emergency callouts within one hour when on duty.
This is an outstanding opportunity to join a supportive team delivering essential services across the UK Defence estate. If you are an experienced Electrical Engineer or Electrical Tester looking for a technically interesting role with excellent earning potential, long-term stability and the opportunity to work on unique Defence-sector infrastructure, we would like to hear from you. Apply today and become part of the team helping to keep RAF Fairford and RAF Welford safe, compliant and operational.
