We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Electrician to join our team supporting MOD buildings at DSTL Porton Down. This is an opportunity to work across a varied estate including offices, plant rooms, and laboratory environments, delivering essential electrical maintenance and repair services.
The Role This is a varied and fast-paced position where you will undertake both planned preventative maintenance and reactive repairs across a wide range of electrical systems. You will be responsible for fault finding, investigation, and carrying out repairs efficiently while working from drawings and specifications with minimal supervision. You will manage your own workload and ensure all work is recorded accurately using PDA systems, completing associated documentation in a timely manner. A strong focus on Health and Safety is essential, including contributing to and working in line with risk assessments and method statements. Although capable of working independently, you will primarily operate as part of a close-knit team consisting of three electricians and three mechanical engineers, all reporting to the Technical Services Manager. You will regularly liaise with building custodians, workplace managers, and other stakeholders, requiring strong customer-facing and communication skills.
What You Bring To be successful in this role, you will hold an NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Electrical Installation and be qualified to the 18th Edition IEE Wiring Regulations. You will have proven experience working in commercial or industrial environments and be confident in fault finding and problem solving. You will be comfortable using IT systems such as MS Office and PDA devices, and able to work both independently and as part of a wider team. Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise tasks in a busy environment are essential. City and Guilds 2391 Inspection and Testing is desirable. Experience within MOD or secure environments, along with knowledge of relevant Health and Safety regulations such as COSHH, RIDDOR, and asbestos awareness, would be advantageous. You must be a British National and able to obtain SC Security Clearance to be eligible for this role.
