The Opportunity
They are looking for a heavyweight safety leader to take the helm of our HSEQ strategy across a major business unit. This is a high-visibility role where you will sit as an equal on the Senior Leadership Team, acting as the primary SME and advisor to the Managing Director. The Challenge
As a Leader, you will take full accountability for the HSEQ performance of a complex business stream, managing a multidisciplinary team of Subject Matter Experts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Ownership: Design and deliver a bespoke HSEQ strategy that reduces incident rates and moves the culture from passive compliance to active ownership.
- Executive Influence: Partner with the MD and Senior Leadership Team to ensure safety initiatives are hardwired into every business decision.
- Operational Leadership: Lead and motivate a team of specialists, ensuring they are empowered to drive best practices across all contracts.
- Talent Development: Direct the recruitment and professional growth of the HSEQ team, building a robust succession plan for the division.
- Commercial Integrity: Oversee the HSEQ elements of new bids to ensure ethical delivery and compliance with rigorous safety protocols.
- Financial Management: Maintain full oversight of HSEQ budgets, ensuring all safety-critical targets are met within financial parameters.

Qualifications:
- You must hold a Degree, NVQ, or Diploma (Level 5 or above) in Occupational Health and Safety. Ideally hold CMIOSH status.
- Sector Expertise: You must demonstrate a deep understanding of the Defence sector (including MOD processes) OR possess extensive experience leading QHSE in a multi-faceted, multi-site, high-risk environment.
- Proven Impact: You have a track record of leading culture change programmes within high-hazard or highly regulated environments.
- Stakeholder Management: You are an articulate and energised communicator, capable of influencing both frontline teams and executive boards.
- Strategic Mindset: You possess the analytical skills to assimilate complex data and turn it into simple, effective messages for the business.
