We are recruiting for experienced Detention Custody Managers to join our team at Derwentside Immigration Removal Centre, where we are responsible for all aspects of detainee safety, security and welfare provision, facilities management and catering. Supporting the Duty Director with the management of functions and services, planning and co-ordination of the centre’s daily operations that may include the provision of out of centre escorts/transfers, the care of vulnerable residents and the management of incidents.
You will manage the deployment of staff to ensure service delivery and contractual compliance whilst monitoring the attendance of direct report staff and assist the wider operation of the Centre – this includes contributing to the delivery and achievement of relevant performance measures, contract outcomes and locally agreed targets including KPIs.
You will be keen to coach, support and empower staff to maximise their performance and ensure values, ethical standards, equality and diversity, policies and procedures and contractual requirements are met.
Daily key duties will include overseeing roll count procedures, undertaking key, radio and BWC checks, managing and dispatching escorts and bed watches in accordance with local instructions. Additionally, you will take command of incidents as required to contain and minimise the effect of the incident in accordance with any contingency plans.
You will implement and monitor effective Assessment, Care in Detention and Teamwork (ACDT) systems to minimise suicides and bullying within the Centre.
What you’ll need to do the role
To be considered for this role you must demonstrate that you have similar experience within a management role. Ideally, you will hold a relevant Management Qualification i.e. CMI level 3 or equivalent, or significant operational experience preferably within a secure setting or have worked within security of a physical or procedural nature.
You should have a proven track record of managing incidents preferably within a secure environment. You must demonstrate an understanding of Detention Centre Rules, DSO’s and commercial contract requirements.
We are looking for someone who is confident and credible, with strong communication skills and has the ability to influence, plan and organise to achieve high outcomes.
