Salary: £28,000 – £34,000 depending on experience

Schedule: 40 hours per week, permanent

As a Cover Tutor in our HMP Fosse Way team, you’ll support learners across a range of vocational subjects, helping them build skills that create real opportunities for their futures. You’ll step in where needed to maintain consistent, high‑quality learning, ensuring every learner feels supported to grow and stay on track with their ambitions. This role plays an important part in helping people develop confidence, gain meaningful qualifications, and prepare for a better future beyond custody. Your work will make a positive impact on individuals, their families, and wider communities.

What you’ll do as a Cover Tutor

  • Deliver learning sessions across a range of vocational subjects, providing cover to maintain continuity and quality when colleagues are unavailable. Areas to cover include: Horticulture, Industrial Cleaning, Gym, Hospitality Enterprise, Creative Craft – Textiles, Health and Nutrition, Fire Safety, Health and Safety, Food Safety, Vocational Assessing – TAQA 3.
  • Support learners in developing practical skills, knowledge, and workplace behaviours aligned to course requirements and long‑term goals.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, progress, achievements, assessments, and Individual Learning Plans.
  • Provide constructive feedback and guidance to help learners progress and stay motivated.
  • Ensure awarding‑body standards are met and support the accreditation and certification process.
  • Promote safe working practices, encouraging learners to value tools, equipment, and shared learning spaces.

Does this sound like you?

You’ll be a great fit for this role if you have:

  • Level 2 Maths and English, or equivalent.
  • Experience delivering training in any setting (education, workplace, or community).
  • A teaching or assessing qualification (such as Level 3 Award in Education and Training or TAQA Level 3) – desirable but not essential.
  • The flexibility and confidence to deliver learning across a variety of subjects using engaging teaching methods.

If you don’t currently hold a teaching or assessing qualification, we’ll support you to achieve this as part of your probationary period.

Vetting and checks: An Enhanced DBS check is required for this role. This includes spent and unspent convictions, cautions, and any relevant information held by local police, in accordance with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and safeguarding requirements. You will also complete an Occupational Health Questionnaire to allow us to provide any support needed for you to succeed in the role.
