Delivered through a partnership of the MOD, Serco, and our consortium of partners, this service will provide end-to-end support from candidate attraction to assessment, onboarding, and Phase 1 training. We are recruiting for a Learning & Development Designer to join our Armed Forces Recruitment Service (AFRS) contract. This is a diverse role where you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining high-quality learning solutions for AFRS civilian and service personnel. This role creates engaging blended learning—eLearning, videos, guides, workshops, and systems training—while ensuring alignment with Defence Systems Approach to Training (DSAT), business needs, and external quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and creation of learning content across digital, face-to-face, and blended formats.
- Maintain the AFRS content library and ensure materials support capability growth.
- Work closely with SMEs, delivery leads and the L&D team to scope, design, and implement training.
- Use and maintain the Defence Learning Environment (DLE), SharePoint and e-portfolio systems.
- Ensure all learning meets DSAT methodology and external quality requirements.
- Evaluate and improve learning using data, feedback, and insights.
- Provide expert advice on learning design, user experience, and blended learning methods.
- Manage design projects within scope, time, and budget.
Skills & Experience
- Strong knowledge of eLearning design, LMS platforms, and digital learning tools (e.g., Articulate, Rise, Vyond, and DLE).
- Understanding of L&D models, blended learning, and user-centred design.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and organisational skills.
- Ability to work creatively, manage priorities, and drive continuous improvement.
- Commercial L&D experience desirable.
- Experience of DSAT is desirable.
- The ability to gain BPSS and SC clearance is required; UK travel as needed.
