About the role
We’re looking for an experienced Billing Manager to join our Global Financial Services (GFS) team and play a key role in transforming and strengthening our billing function. This is an exciting opportunity to shape the future of billing at Serco. You’ll lead the review and redesign of existing processes, introduce scalable and efficient ways of working, and drive automation and continuous improvement. Once the new model is established, you’ll take ownership of the end-to-end billing operation, ensuring accurate and timely revenue capture while delivering a high-quality service to our customers and internal stakeholders. Reporting to the Head of Revenue, you’ll lead a team of onshore Financial Accountants alongside colleagues within our offshore Business Processing Outsourcer (BPO). You’ll work across multiple business areas and contract streams, balancing standardised processes with the specific requirements of our diverse portfolio.
What you’ll be doing
- Leading the review and redesign of billing processes, systems and controls to create a scalable future-state operating model.
- Identifying inefficiencies, risks and opportunities, implementing solutions that improve accuracy, efficiency and customer experience.
- Developing and embedding best-practice billing frameworks, policies and documented ways of working.
- Ensuring billing activity complies with contractual terms, pricing structures, internal policies, audit requirements and relevant financial standards.
- Establishing robust controls to minimise revenue leakage and billing errors, while ensuring audit readiness.
- Building, leading and developing a high-performing billing team through effective coaching, training and performance management.
- Taking ownership of the day-to-day billing operation, including accurate and timely invoice generation and end-to-end billing cycles.
- Working alongside Order to Cash (OTC) teams to manage disputes and collections and support wider working capital objectives.
- Using data and trend analysis to identify risks and opportunities and drive further improvements.
What you’ll need
We’re looking for an experienced billing or Order to Cash professional who combines strong operational expertise with a genuine passion for transformation and continuous improvement. You’ll bring:
- Proven experience managing billing operations or working within an Order to Cash environment.
- Experience leading process transformation, optimisation or system implementation.
- A strong understanding of different billing models, including recurring, usage-based and contract billing.
- Experience managing, developing and motivating teams within a high-volume operational environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with excellent attention to detail.
- The ability to work effectively across Finance, Commercial and Technology functions.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with confidence engaging with senior stakeholders.
- A strong understanding of financial controls and the importance of accurate revenue capture.
- Experience with SAP ERP or other billing systems would be advantageous, as would knowledge of revenue recognition principles, including IFRS 15.
