Help protect the UK's critical defence infrastructure Are you an organised, analytical and proactive professional with a passion for security, investigations and protecting sensitive information? If you're looking for a role where you can make a genuine impact while working independently and collaborating with key stakeholders, we'd love to hear from you. At VIVO, security is about much more than protecting buildings. It's about safeguarding people, information, assets and the essential services that support the Ministry of Defence.
As our Security Officer, you'll play a key role in maintaining security governance, supporting investigations and ensuring compliance across our organisation. This is a non-guarding security role offering variety, responsibility and the opportunity to work across a wide range of security disciplines, including investigations, personnel security, security assurance, fraud prevention and risk management.
About the Role Working closely with the General Counsel, Security Managers and Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) stakeholders, you'll help ensure VIVO meets its contractual and regulatory security obligations while promoting a strong and positive security culture throughout the business. You'll support security assurance activities across VIVO offices and operational sites by conducting health checks, audits and compliance reviews. You'll help ensure our security arrangements align with Ministry of Defence, DIO, government and VIVO security policies, while identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
A significant part of the role involves supporting investigations into security incidents, misconduct, fraud and policy breaches. You'll gather and analyse evidence, maintain accurate interview records, produce professional investigation reports and assist in developing recommendations that strengthen our security arrangements. You'll also support personnel security activities, working alongside the Vetting Team to assist with security clearances and pre-employment screening while ensuring confidential records are maintained in accordance with security and data protection requirements.
You'll keep Security Managers informed of security matters and contribute to the effective management of personnel security across the organisation. As a trusted source of advice, you'll support managers and employees by providing guidance on physical, personnel and information security, assisting with fraud prevention initiatives and contributing to security risk assessments and mitigation planning. You'll also help raise security awareness and encourage a culture where security is everyone's responsibility.
Building effective relationships will be central to your success. You'll work closely with colleagues across VIVO, Ministry of Defence representatives, Defence Infrastructure Organisation stakeholders and external partners, supporting meetings, assurance reviews and the ongoing development of security policies, procedures and guidance.
What you’ll need You'll be someone who can handle highly confidential information with professionalism and discretion while remaining calm, organised and objective. You enjoy working independently, are confident managing competing priorities and have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. You'll have strong written and verbal communication skills, enabling you to produce clear reports and communicate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels. You'll also be proficient in Microsoft Office and have experience supporting investigations, audits, compliance activities or security assurance work. Knowledge of personnel security, government security requirements and UK security vetting processes would be an advantage, as would an understanding of security risk management, fraud prevention or investigation techniques. Experience within Ministry of Defence or critical infrastructure environments would also be beneficial but is not essential.
This role requires a high level of self-management and the ability to work independently while maintaining close relationships with colleagues and stakeholders. Regular travel to VIVO offices and operational sites across the UK will be required to undertake security assurance activities, audits and investigations in support of the Security Managers.
Why Join VIVO? Joining VIVO means becoming part of an organisation that supports the UK's defence estate by delivering critical facilities management services.
