Overview

Serco's Central Finance team provides transactional finance support for a large network of UK leisure centres — and we're looking for an Accounts Receivable Clerk to join us on a fixed-term basis. This is a role that needs someone who values accuracy. You'll be managing the end-to-end accounts receivable process across a portfolio of leisure sites — from raising invoices to chasing overdue debt — as part of a collaborative, distributed finance team.

As part of this you’ll:

  • Raising sales invoices accurately and on time, in line with company procedures
  • Processing customer invoices and credit notes and ensuring customers pay to term
  • Carrying out meticulous checks on invoice and credit note batches prior to processing
  • Securing correct approvals for invoices and credits before posting to the ledger
  • Allocating BACS, cheque, and cash payments
  • Investigating payment discrepancies and arranging credit notes where appropriate
  • Maintaining a continuous focus on debt collection — chasing overdue balances and keeping clear ledger commentary for resolution
  • Producing month-end and weekly debtor reports and summary reconciliation reports
  • Assisting with Age Debtor reconciliations for contract managers
  • Coordinating with Leisure Site teams to resolve queries and keep outstanding debt to a minimum
  • Supporting audit activity and picking up ad hoc duties as required

What you’ll need to do the role:

This is an admin-driven, process-focused role — the kind where consistency, accuracy, and a good phone manner matter more than a long CV. You might be earlier in your finance career or returning from a similar role. What matters most is that you bring:

  • Strong attention to detail and a high standard of accuracy across repetitive, process-driven tasks
  • Good communication skills — comfortable speaking with a range of stakeholders including community club volunteers and internal site teams
  • Confident using Microsoft-based systems; experience with Great Plains is a bonus (we're transitioning to SAP S4/HANA, so an appetite to learn new systems is key)
  • A methodical approach and the ability to manage your own workload
  • Good numerical skills and basic Excel

Desirable

  • Prior experience in a Sales Ledger, AR, or transactional finance role
  • Experience of or exposure to SAP or Great Plains
  • Experience of IT controls testing or audit would be a bonus, but it's not essential.

If you understand how finance or IT systems work and you have the aptitude for careful, structured work — we want to talk to you.
