This new approach will, for the first time, see the Royal Navy, the British Army, and the Royal Air Force have a joint Armed Forces Recruitment Service (AFRS). Delivered through a partnership of the MOD, Serco, and our consortium of partners, this service will provide end-to-end support from candidate attraction to assessment and onboarding.
As a Social Value and Sustainability Manager in our AFRS team, you'll shape and steer the strategic direction of our Social Value and sustainability commitments, ensuring they deliver measurable outcomes for colleagues, communities, and partners. You'll play a pivotal role in defining how a major contract delivers on its purpose - influencing senior stakeholders, guiding decision making, and driving initiatives that set new standards for impact.

What you'll do as a Social Value and Sustainability Manager:
- Develop, maintain, and implement a Sustainability Plan and Social Value Impact report, capturing performance and progress across initiatives.
- Implement and manage Social Value initiatives across tackling inequality, employee wellbeing, and diverse supply chain workstreams.
- Set up, maintain, and utilise contract reporting metrics via the Social Value Portal, providing accurate and timely reporting.
- Lead and support the delivery of the Social Value Strategy by coordinating stakeholders to ensure initiatives are delivered successfully.
- Coordinate the Annual Social Value Week, including volunteer activities and impact tracking.
- Work with colleagues across Serco, including HR, L&D, wellbeing, and procurement, to deliver initiatives and ensure colleagues can access support and benefits.
- Encourage colleagues to contribute new ideas for Social Value initiatives and secure funding for approved projects.
- Build external partnerships with organisations delivering community programmes and create networks with social enterprises to strengthen Social Value delivery.
- Establish and lead the Jump on Board programme to provide work placements for underrepresented groups.
- Support sustainability commitments by working with Health and Safety and wider Serco teams.
- Create and lead a Social Value Committee, working collaboratively across TEAM Serco to drive impactful activity and ensure outcomes are captured appropriately.
- Monitor and report compliance with Sustainability Requirements and implement ISO 14001-aligned systems.
- Measure, analyse, and report demographic and performance data in line with contract requirements, including quarterly reporting to the Authority.
- Support government commitments related to sustainable procurement and engage in wider Serco working groups to ensure accurate reporting and continuous improvement.
Does this sound like you?
- Minimum 3 years' experience in Social Value and sustainability management.
- Knowledge of Social Value compliance requirements and ISO 14001 environmental management systems.
- Experience delivering Social Value and sustainability projects and improvement programmes.
- Associate membership of IEMA or equivalent, working toward Practitioner level.
- Understanding of the Social Value Model used in central government procurement.
- Strong PC literacy across Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, plus a full UK driving licence.
This role requires Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance, which involves verifying your identity, employment history, nationality, and criminal record to meet government security standards. In addition, depending on the nature of the role, you may need to obtain formal Security Clearance (such as CTC or SC), which includes more detailed background checks on employment, criminal record, and financial history to ensure suitability for working in secure environments.
