A Clinical Standards Lead (CSL) plays a crucial delivery and support role in the Health Assessment Advisory Service by ensuring that clinical practices adhere to the Department of Work and Pensions standards, regulations, and guidelines. In this role, you will be supporting healthcare professionals to grow, learn, and achieve a consistently high quality of service delivery by providing audit, mentorship, coaching, teaching, and role modeling during their training and beyond. This critical role supports feedback to staff, customers, and other stakeholders while maintaining clinical compliance with DWP standards post-initial training and promoting Continuing Professional Development and career development. The Clinical Standards Lead will also play a key role in the delivery of clinical audits.

Reporting to the Assessment Centre Manager, your key accountabilities will include:

  • Delivering training and support programs for health professionals in Work Capability Assessment Stage 3 and Stage 4, as well as the post-approval period, to ensure understanding and compliance with clinical standards.
  • Supporting HPs in gaining approval with DWP by adapting models of coaching, mentoring, and education.
  • Completing clinical audits.
  • Providing ongoing education on new standards and updates to existing standards.
  • Promoting HPs in maintaining CPD.
  • Staying informed about changes in healthcare regulations, guidelines, and standards.
  • Ensuring that clinical practices comply with DWP and national guidelines.
  • Providing revalidation support as required by registering bodies.
  • Overseeing quality assurance processes to monitor and evaluate performance.
  • Supporting new entrant audit feedback processes and easing the transition to Health Assessment Advisory Service (HAAS).
  • Undertaking team reviews of quality and productivity to identify areas for improvement and ensure compliance with standards.
  • Supporting HPs with customer feedback and providing investigatory support.
  • Collaborating with risk management teams to identify and mitigate potential risks associated with clinical practices.
  • Ensuring that home and clinic environments meet GDPR requirements.
  • Implementing strategies to enhance customer safety and minimize adverse events.
  • Working closely with clinical HPs, management, and other stakeholders to promote a culture of continuous improvement in clinical practices.
  • Fostering open communication between all stakeholders in HAAS to promote Serco and the HAAS service.
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date documentation related to clinical standards and compliance efforts.
  • Preparing reports for management and regulatory agencies, highlighting compliance status and areas requiring attention.
  • Staying abreast of technological advancements in DWP proprietary IT and assessing their impact on clinical standards.
  • Collaborating with IT teams to integrate technology solutions that enhance compliance and efficiency in clinical processes.
  • Leading a team of professionals involved in clinical standards and compliance efforts.
  • Collaborating with other leaders in the organization to align clinical standards with overall strategic objectives.

What you will need to do the role:

  • Accreditation as a health professional with the DWP for WCA.
  • Strong mentorship and coaching skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to work independently.
  • One year of experience as an HP in WCA.
  • Prior experience in coaching and mentoring.
  • Trained to complete clinical audits.
  • Valid and clear NMC, HCPC, or GMC registration.
