As a Speech and Language Therapist in our Therapeutic Community team, you’ll provide specialist assessment and intervention to support adults with complex communication needs within a secure environment. Your work will directly support engagement in therapy, positive behaviour change, and long‑term rehabilitation. Working within the Enhanced Assessment Unit of the Therapeutic Community, you’ll help create a more inclusive and effective therapeutic environment. By identifying communication strengths and needs, and supporting both participants and colleagues to respond effectively, your work will have a meaningful and lasting impact on individuals and the wider community.
What you’ll do as a Speech and Language Therapist
- Deliver specialist speech, language and communication assessments and formulations
- Provide targeted, functional speech and language therapy to support comprehension, expression and social interaction
- Support participants to engage in therapy groups, community meetings and daily community living
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary colleagues, offering consultation and practical communication strategies
- Identify communication‑related risk and protective factors to support safer rehabilitation outcomes
- Maintain accurate clinical records and engage in professional and clinical supervision

- A degree in Speech and Language Therapy, with Health and Care Professions Council registration and Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists membership
- Experience delivering speech and language therapy to adults with complex needs
- Confidence working within a multidisciplinary team and contributing specialist insights
- Strong understanding of trauma‑informed practice and its impact on communication
- Clear, adaptable communication skills, emotional resilience and sound professional judgement
Vetting and checks An Enhanced DBS check is required for this role. This includes spent and unspent convictions, cautions, and any relevant information held by local police, in accordance with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and safeguarding requirements. You will also complete an Occupational Health Questionnaire to allow us to provide any support needed for you to succeed in the role.
