Overview

Job Title: Plumber – FTC (6 Month). Location: Forth Valley Royal Hospital, Larbert. Department: Estates & Facilities. Reports to: Estates Supervisor / Maintenance Manager. Salary: Agenda for Change – Band 4. Hours: Full Time, 37 hours. Contract Type: Fixed-Term

Responsibilities

  • Deliver Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) on all plumbing systems and equipment, ensuring assets are maintained in line with compliance standards and operational requirements.
  • Carry out reactive plumbing maintenance, including repair and replacement of pipework, sanitaryware, valves, and associated systems.
  • Service, maintain, and test Thermostatic Mixing Valves (TMVs) in line with NHS Health Technical Memoranda (HTMs) and statutory guidance.
  • Support water safety protocols, including temperature monitoring, flushing regimes, and legionella prevention measures in accordance with NHS and SHTM guidance.
  • Accurately complete all documentation related to PPM, reactive works, and statutory compliance using the CAFM system.
  • Liaise effectively with Estates colleagues, contractors, and clinical staff to ensure minimal disruption to patient care.
  • Work in strict adherence to infection prevention and control procedures, including HAI-Scribe documentation and best practices.
  • Undertake minor plumbing installations and assist in project works as directed.
  • Ensure all work is completed in line with relevant health and safety legislation, risk assessments, and COSHH regulations.
  • Participate in on-call rota or shift working if required to support 24/7 service delivery.

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Time-served plumbing apprenticeship and/or NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Plumbing and Heating (or equivalent).
  • Proven experience in plumbing maintenance within a large building or estate environment.
  • Hands-on experience with TMV servicing, testing, and maintenance.
  • Understanding of legionella control, water hygiene, and compliance requirements in accordance with HTM and SHTM guidance.
  • Competent in the use of CAFM systems and comfortable with digital reporting of maintenance activities.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and plumbing schematics.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills with a commitment to safe working practices.

Desirable:

  • Experience working in a hospital or healthcare environment, ideally within NHS settings.
  • Familiarity with HAI-Scribe infection control documentation and procedures.
  • Knowledge of SHTM/HTM standards relevant to healthcare plumbing systems.
  • Experience of working within the Agenda for Change framework or understanding of NHS working practices.

Additional Information

  • The postholder may be required to participate in an on-call rota or shift system to support essential maintenance services outside core hours.
  • Appropriate training and development will be provided, including updates on healthcare compliance, infection control, and water safety.
