Aircraft Mechanical Senior Supervisor
RAF Syerston - Gliders RAF Syerston, Newark on Trent, NG23 5NN (bordering Lincolnshire) Full Time, Permanent (39 hours per week)
Salary of £39,574 per annum on a successful completion of a 3 months' probation period. (Additional allowance maybe applied subject to role requirement)
Here at Serco we support the development of the RAF's next generation of aircrew, engineers and air traffic controllers through our unique contract with the Air Cadet organisation.
We maintain and manage their fleet of gliders, and as one of our Aircraft Engineers, you'll play a key role in keeping these aircraft operational and in the air.
Serco Defence have an exciting role as an Aircraft Mechanical Senior Supervisor at RAF Syerston.
You will lead and manage teams carrying out maintenance on Viking and other contract-related aircraft at RAF Syerston and other locations throughout the UK.
Key accountabilities of the role include
Fulfil the responsibilities and duties of Certifying Staff in accordance with Serco GMS policies and military regulatory policies.
- Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance on Viking and other contract-related aircraft at RAF Syerston and 2 Flying Training School (FTS) locations/Volunteer Gliding Squadrons (VGSs)/detachments across the UK.
- Lead and participate in aircraft activities, including ground movement and preparation for transportation.
- Lead, manage, supervise, and control assigned maintenance teams.
- Optimise output to meet business needs and demonstrate commitment to Operational Excellence and Continuous Improvement.
- Perform additional roles as required such as Aircraft Manager (Depth-level Maintenance), Team Leader (Mobile), Building Custodian, and Issue Centre Custodian.
What you need to do the role
- Experienced in a similar engineering background with a minimum of MOD Phase 2 technical training or suitable civilian training (civilian contractors only)
- Proven experience or potential to hold Certifying Staff responsibilities.
- Have experience in equivalent civilian industry or Armed Forces in a relevant trade group.
- Possess good fault diagnosis skills, demonstrating an understanding of aircraft systems.
- Technically competent.
- Hold full driving licence.
- Possess good communication skills both written and verbal.
- Be competent using IT.
- Ideally, have been previously employed within a Part 145 organisation.
- Ideally, have working knowledge of military or civilian aircraft maintenance documentation and publications.
Because the aircraft are stationed around the UK you'll not only need to travel away, which may involve several overnight stays, but you must also hold a full driving licence.
You'll also need to be medically fit to work in an aircraft engineering environment, with manual handling and aircraft rigging and de-rigging (physically demanding) as part of the job.
