As a Maintenance Officer (Water and Pressure) in our Estates and Facilities team, you'll play a vital role in keeping hospital water and pressure systems safe, compliant, and reliable.

Your work will help protect patients, colleagues, and visitors while supporting frontline clinical services every day.

By maintaining critical infrastructure and ensuring compliance with water safety and pressure systems regulations, you'll help create a safe environment where healthcare can thrive and communities can rely on essential services.

What you'll do as a Maintenance Officer (Water and Pressure)

You'll be entrusted to

  • Carry out planned preventive maintenance and statutory checks on water systems in line with Health Technical Memorandum 04-01 and Approved Code of Practice (ACo P) L8
  • Inspect, test, and maintain pressure systems including booster sets, pressure vessels, heating and chilled water systems
  • Respond to reactive maintenance issues such as leaks, failures, and water quality concerns across the hospital estate
  • Maintain accurate compliance records, permits to work, and risk assessments and method statements (RAMS)
  • Support audits, inspections, and contractor activities, ensuring safe systems of work at all times
  • Work closely with engineering colleagues, clinical teams, and contractors to minimise disruption to services.

You’ll be a great fit for this role if you have

  • A mechanical engineering qualification and proven experience in mechanical maintenance
  • Sound knowledge of water safety management and pressure systems regulations, including Pressure Systems Safety Regulations (PSSR)
  • Experience working in regulated or safety-critical environments, ideally within healthcare or PFI settings
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving, with a strong focus on safety, quality, and compliance
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a wider engineering team
  • Experience in reporting all water-related issues to the Water Safety Group.
  • PC literate with preferred knowledge in a CAFM system. Basic office and HR experience.
  • Experience with filtration, plantroom maintenance, and point-of-use filters.
  • Understanding of water compliance in healthcare.
  • Understanding of maintaining essential plumbing stores and procurement.
  • Experience in managing plumbing teams, as well as Maintenance Assistants and subcontractors.
  • Experience and understanding in risk assessments and schematic drawings.
  • Understanding of ventilation and pressure systems, with the willingness to gain AP certification.
  • Experience in COSHH regulations with an understanding of chemical ordering and disinfection.
  • Good knowledge of fitting and maintaining TMVs.
  • Good understanding of Water Bylaws.
  • City & Guilds or equivalent certification, qualifying them in dealing with Legionella, TVCs and Pseudomonas in hot and cold-water systems, including local pipework and tank disinfections.
  • In-depth experience in L8 requirements in health care, with knowledge in SHTMs.
  • Must have City & Guilds/NVQ in plumbing, heating, and pipefitting with experience and knowledge of various pipework systems, including Mepla, Flow-Fit, Copper & Stainless steel.
  • Vetting and checks

This role requires membership of the PVG Scheme, which involves a detailed check of spent and unspent convictions and other relevant information to ensure safeguarding compliance.

You will also complete an Occupational Health Questionnaire so we can provide any necessary support to help you carry out your responsibilities.
