Salary: £25,272 plus excellent benefits

Schedule: Shift-based role covering 7 days including bank holidays. Porter shift times are between 07:00 and 22:00, floor maintenance shift times are 09:00 to 17:00.

As a Hospital Porter in our Health team, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring the hospital runs smoothly, supporting patients, colleagues, and visitors through reliable and responsive portering services. Your work helps create a safe, efficient, and caring environment where everyone can receive the support they need. Your role will cover portering shifts and floor maintenance shifts. In this role, your contribution goes beyond logistics, and you’ll make a real difference to people's everyday experiences. Whether you’re transporting patients, delivering essential supplies, or supporting emergency situations, your work directly impacts care delivery and patient wellbeing. What you’ll do as a Hospital Porter:

  • Provide a high-quality portering service across the hospital, ensuring equipment, materials, and patients are moved safely and efficiently.
  • Transport items such as medical gases, pharmaceuticals, blood products, furniture, mail, and confidential records in line with procedures.
  • Support waste management processes, including the safe movement of clinical, general, and confidential waste.
  • Maintain cleanliness across work areas, including portering bases and equipment, supporting infection control standards.
  • Floor maintenance using various machinery (training provided) to clean all flooring within the hospital.
  • Respond promptly to requests, including urgent and emergency situations, ensuring service delivery standards are met.
  • Follow all health, safety, and security procedures, reporting incidents, faults, or hazards as required.

Vetting and checks: A Standard DBS check will be carried out for this position. This includes spent and unspent convictions, cautions, reprimands, and warnings as permitted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act. An Occupational Health Questionnaire will also be completed so we can ensure you have the necessary support to perform your duties.
