As a Generalist Cover Teacher in our HMP Ashfield team, you'll help learners build confidence, gain qualifications, and develop skills they can take forward into employment or further learning. Your work will directly contribute to positive outcomes for individuals and the wider community.
You’ll create engaging learning experiences across a variety of subjects, ensuring every learner has the support, encouragement and guidance they need to progress. What you’ll do as a Generalist Cover Teacher
- Deliver high quality teaching across subjects including English, Maths, Construction and additional vocational areas as required
- Prepare, assess and mark learner work, ensuring accurate completion of documentation and registers
- Develop Individual Learning Plans and monitor progress through contextual statements
- Contribute to team meetings, curriculum planning and continuous professional development
- Create positive and inclusive learner experiences, encouraging engagement and motivation
- Manage learner behaviour appropriately in line with prison processes
- Deliver adaptive teaching to meet diverse needs, including supporting learners with neurodiversity and learning difficulties or disabilities
- Promote, market and support enrolment onto education, skills and work programmes
Does this sound like you?
You’ll be a great fit for this role if you have:
- A Level 3 or above Teaching Qualification, with willingness to achieve Level 5 within the first 12 months
- Strong digital literacy, including up to date knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Five GCSEs at Grade C/4 or above (or equivalent), including English and Maths
- A relevant degree, PGCE or professional qualification suited to the curriculum areas
- A collaborative, learner centred approach and a commitment to high quality teaching and learning
Vetting and checks:
An Enhanced DBS check is required for this role. This includes spent and unspent convictions, cautions, and any relevant information held by local police, in accordance with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and safeguarding requirements. You will also complete an Occupational Health Questionnaire to allow us to provide any support needed for you to succeed in the role.
