Excellent benefits

At Shropshire Community Leisure Trust, we encourage active, healthy lifestyles across the local community. Providing affordable access to a wide range of sports and leisure facilities in a safe, clean, friendly and welcoming space, our goal is to support healthier and happier lives for everyone. Delivering these services relies on an enthusiastic, customer-focused team, and we're looking for a Lifeguard to join our team and help make a positive difference every day.

As a Lifeguard, you'll be an important part of life here at the centre as you ensure that everyone can use the pool in safety and that they have access to everything they need to enjoy their visit. Without you, there can't be any pool activity. You won't be working alone; our leisure centre has a close-knit and supportive team, all working towards providing an inclusive leisure hub for the entire community. You will also receive fantastic training and development opportunities and benefits including free leisure access and various discounts.

What you'll need to do the role:

  • Excellent customer service skills as you'll be interacting heavily with our customers.
  • Experience in a leisure or another customer-facing environment.
  • Providing customer care to people of all ages.
  • Supervising activities and maintaining high standards of cleanliness in the pool area.
  • Ensuring the safe handling and set up of pool equipment.
  • Being safety conscious, vigilant, and able to deal with pressurised situations.
  • Strong swimming skills and holding a National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (Royal Life Saving Society).

Due to this being a full-time role including earlies and lates, we can only consider candidates that are over 18.

Why Join us:

  • Meaningful and vital work: Swimming pools are the beating hearts of our leisure centres and without lifeguards we can't operate.
  • A world of opportunity: Our lifeguards are integral to the running of our centres, so as well progressing into senior lifeguard positions you can move into other centre management roles in one of our 55 facilities.
  • Great people: Our centres are close-knit and friendly, and we rely on each other for support.

What we offer:

  • Holidays: Up to 25 days pro rata plus bank holidays
  • Pension: Up to 6% contributory pension scheme
  • Training and development: Over 1,100 internal courses available, funding for qualifications and apprenticeships, mentoring opportunities, and a focus on internal progression
  • Health and wellbeing: Employee Assistance Programme, Bupa Anytime HealthLine, wellbeing app, free membership for Serco-managed leisure centres, and 24/7 access to a virtual GP service
  • Discounts: Discounts across around 1,000 retailers, from food and clothing to days out, entertainment and travel
  • Charity: Paid volunteering day, tax-free charitable giving through Payroll Giving Scheme
  • Employee networks: Our networks support inclusion and connection by providing spaces for collaboration, learning, and belonging.

Our inclusive recruitment commitment: We prioritise your skills and potential, and champion equal opportunities for all. We offer flexible and hybrid working where possible and make reasonable adjustments throughout recruitment and employment.
