Serco Maritime Services, Kyle of Lochalsh is offering a permanent, full-time position for a Second Engineer with a schedule of 6 weeks on and 3 weeks off. There is an opportunity to live afloat if required. For applicants living further than 80 miles away from Kyle of Lochalsh, Serco will pay a maximum of 0.45p per mile for travel to and from base.
This role supports a professional multi-skilled team operating from beautiful Kyle of Lochalsh for customers who expect and deserve the best service. Serco Maritime Services delivers maritime support packages tailored to our customers’ needs within a national accreditation framework. As owners and operators of specialist vessels, we provide world-class integrated maritime services both in the UK and abroad.
Main Accountabilities:
- Carry out planned maintenance, emergency maintenance, and repair work for continuous survey of all propulsion, auxiliary and deck machinery, air conditioning, domestic installations, boilers, fittings and structures.
- Personally supervise work on main engine and auxiliaries to ensure a planned and coordinated performance of maintenance duties.
- Keep Chief Engineer advised of maintenance progress at all times.
- Ensure machinery and machinery area is kept as clean as possible.
- Monitor, control and document the use of spare parts and stores.
- Liaise with other members of the ship’s staff to give feedback and early warning to the Chief Engineer concerning any potential hazards.
- Be fully conversant with the use of all safety equipment, emergency procedures, and contingency plans.
- Familiarise with safety routines and ensure necessary safeguards are in place before any maintenance/repair work commences.
- Be fully conversant with company Safety Management System.
Essential Qualifications/Experience:
- Certificate of Competence as Second Engineer (3000kW) as a minimum
- STCW Personal Survival Techniques (5 Year Refresher Course)
- STCW Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities (5 Year Refresher Course)
- STCW Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting (5 Year Refresher Course)
- STCW Certificate of Proficiency in Survival Craft (5 Year Refresher Course)
- STCW Proficiency in Designated Security Duties (5 Year Refresher Course)
- STCW Elementary First Aid
- Unrestricted ENG1
- Passport
- Methodical in approach
