Overview

As a Marine Engineering Officer, you will lead and supervise the Marine Engineering Department onboard, ensuring propulsion and auxiliary systems are maintained for vessel availability. You’ll coordinate maintenance, diagnose defects, and support regulatory compliance while promoting safety and readiness. The role plays a key part in delivering essential maritime services to UK and international customers, contributing to safe operations and continuous improvement. You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams to sustain operational capability and training. This is a hands-on leadership position with a clear impact on vessel performance and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise the Marine Engineering Department in operation, maintenance and repair of propulsion, auxiliary and support systems
  • Plan and execute maintenance, diagnose defects and perform hands-on repairs to maintain vessel availability
  • Monitor engineering systems, identify and escalate defects affecting operations
  • Delegate tasks to Marine Engineering staff to ensure safe, effective completion
  • Support Chief Engineer in management, organisation and admin of engineering activities
  • Ensure compliance with statutory, classification society and RFA requirements within timescales
  • Lead engineering training and development to maintain competence and readiness
  • Promote safety culture and support welfare, performance and discipline of personnel
  • Respond to breakdowns and emergencies, coordinating corrective action to minimise impact
