As a Prison Offender Manager within the Offender Management Unit, you will be a key part of the Offender Management in Custody (OMiC) model. You will manage a caseload of low-, medium- and high-risk offenders, working collaboratively with Community Offender Managers and internal departments to deliver effective sentence planning, risk management and rehabilitation. Central to the role is your ability to build constructive professional relationships, motivate individuals through their custodial journey, and contribute to public protection and successful resettlement.
Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day guidance, support and motivation to offenders, helping them understand and achieve their sentence plan objectives.
- Maintain regular face-to-face supervision, ensuring meaningful engagement and clear progress throughout their sentence.
- Support the maintenance and development of positive family and community ties as part of reducing reoffending.
- Coordinate access to activities, education, interventions and programmes identified within the sentence plan, preparing offenders for participation and reinforcing learning.
- Identify emerging risks, needs or barriers, and work with the Probation Offender Manager to review risk assessments and revise plans.
- Complete high-quality OASys assessments, case notes, risk reports and sentence management documentation within required timelines.
- Deliver one-to-one rehabilitative work as specified in the sentence plan.
- Attend and contribute to multidisciplinary reviews and public protection processes, including IRMM and MAPPA meetings.
- Prepare written contributions and attend parole hearings, providing clear and factual information.
- Work effectively within the OMU as part of a professional, collaborative team at HMP Doncaster.
- Maintain strong working relationships with internal departments, external agencies and local criminal justice partners.
- Comply with all relevant PSIs, policies and Serco procedures.
- Take ownership of professional development, completing mandatory training and ongoing learning requirements.
- Provide flexible support across all OMU functions, undertaking reasonable duties as required to support operational needs.
Qualifications
- Strong administrative skills and experience working in a busy office or operational environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Competence with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics.
- Ability to manage caseloads, prioritise and meet deadlines.
- Ability to motivate and engage individuals while maintaining professional boundaries.
Desirable Skills and Experience
- Understanding of Offender Management Unit operations or the OMiC model.
- Experience working with offenders, vulnerable groups or in a criminal justice setting.
- Degree in Criminal Justice, Psychology or a related field.
