Overview: As a Hospital Porter in our Healthcare team, you support colleagues and patients by ensuring safe, dignified and efficient movement of patients, equipment and materials throughout the hospital, directly improving patient experience and supporting clinical care.
Responsibilities:
- Transport patients safely and respectfully between wards, departments and clinical areas using wheelchairs, trolleys, beds or walking support when required.
- Move equipment and furniture across the site to support hospital operations, ensuring correct storage, cleanliness and safe use.
- Carry out non‑patient portering tasks including transporting medical specimens, pharmaceutical products, blood products, medical gases and confidential records.
- Support waste management by safely moving and disposing of clinical, general, confidential, sharps and bulky waste in line with infection‑control procedures.
- Handle mail, goods and materials, ensuring secure and efficient distribution across the hospital.
- Follow all health, safety and infection‑control procedures, reporting any faults, incidents or hazards promptly and accurately.
Qualifications:
- Empathy, a helpful and cooperative manner and the ability to support patients with dignity and care.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
- Experience working in a manual‑handling or customer‑facing role.
- The physical ability to meet the demands of a busy hospital environment, including pushing, pulling and long periods of standing.
Vetting & Checks: An Enhanced DBS check and completion of an Occupational Health Questionnaire are required for this role.
