Working in a well-equipped workshop environment, you'll be responsible for the repair, maintenance, and inspection of Serco commercial vehicles within our fleet maintenance facilities. All work will be carried out in line with the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) Guide to Maintaining Roadworthiness. The vehicles you maintain support important services that communities rely on, giving your work real purpose and helping to create a positive impact on communities. You'll play a vital role in keeping our fleet compliant and reliable. This is a hands-on position where your technical expertise will be used to carry out thorough inspections, diagnose and repair faults, and ensure vehicles fully meet standards.

What you'll do as a Workshop Mechanic:

  • Carry out inspections, servicing, and repairs across a range of commercial vehicles
  • Diagnose faults and deliver efficient, high-quality repairs
  • Work with the Workshop Supervisor to ensure all safety inspections are scheduled at least six months in advance, including statutory obligations
  • Perform brake testing and ensure compliance with Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) requirements
  • Conduct road tests following repairs to confirm vehicles are safe and roadworthy
  • Maintain a clean, organised workshop environment that supports safety and efficiency
  • Maintain accurate service and repair records

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Full industry-recognised qualifications, such as City and Guilds or National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 3 in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair
  • Experience maintaining commercial vehicles or large vehicle fleets
  • A valid Category C Driving Licence, or willingness to obtain one
  • Experience working with specialist hydraulic systems
  • A commitment to safe working practices, high-quality workmanship and continuous learning
