We're recruiting for a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join our busy FM team at HMP Thameside, a Category B establishment for adult males, with safety and security at the heart of it. The key purpose of this role is to carry out routine HVAC and/or Mechanical Engineering work, preventative maintenance and repairs. You will ensure that various pre-planned maintenance schedules are kept up to date and maintained as may be required. The role calls for leadership and setting visible standards of personal performance and accountability and the post holder is expected to function with a degree of independence.
Responsibilities
- Carry out fault finding and defect rectification to items of installed plant and equipment as may be defined and specified.
- Assist in multi trade support of other members of the FM service team in completing work, ie plumbing.
- Escort contractors around the site as and when required in accordance with written procedures.
- Carry out the installation of new plant and apparatus as may be defined and specified.
- Carry out investigations into the performance of the plant and equipment installed in the site and to produce related reports and recommendations as may be required.
- Become familiar with the operation and maintenance of the various systems and equipment installed in the whole of the premises as defined or requested.
- To be aware of all Health & Safety Considerations on site.
- To be part of a call out rota and potential weekend working.
Qualifications
- HVAC and/or Mechanical Engineering Qualification (C&G, NVQ).
- You should be a member of relevant technical professional body desired.
- You must hold an NVQ Level 3 or equivalent and must have 3 years post qualification experience.

You will have a flexible and proactive approach, with a commitment to customer satisfaction and continuous improvement. You will be expected to be part of a call out rota and potential weekend working. Lastly, because of the nature of the work, all offers of employment are subject to security clearance checks and approval by the MoJ and you must be able to pass a CRB Clearance and Security Clearance at CTC level (Counter Terrorism Check).
