Key Responsibilities

  • Operational Leadership: Overseeing frontline Waste and Cleansing Services, ensuring integration for maximum performance, compliance with UK/EU legislation, health & safety standards, and achievement of KPIs and budget targets.
  • Strategic Development & Innovation: Drive continuous improvement, implement new technologies, and develop annual plans to meet contractual and growth objectives.
  • People & Culture: Lead and engage a large workforce, ensuring effective employee relations, diversity and inclusion, training, and performance development.
  • Customer & Stakeholder Engagement: Build strong relationships with local authorities, partners, and communities, promoting service excellence and the Serco Way.
  • Financial & Resource Management: Monitor operational and financial performance, manage resources cost-effectively, safeguard assets, and deliver against budget and profit targets.
  • Safety & Compliance: Maintain a robust health, safety, and environmental culture, ensuring adherence to corporate governance and legal requirements.

What You'll Need to Do the Role

  • Clean Driving licence
  • Previous experience at Contract Management or above level within the waste or similar sector managing blue-collar staff services – previous environmental and street cleansing sectors desirable
  • Previous experience of working in a multi-disciplined contract environment, with specific appropriate skills aligned to the contract needs
  • Previous experience of working with Local government, contracting and tendering
  • Experience of working with complex unions
  • Strong Leadership and People Management Skills
  • Excellent Stakeholder Management Skills
  • Commercially & financially astute

  • Good experience of using IT systems
