Fire Safety Officer

As a Fire Officer in our Governance, Performance, Planning and Compliance team, you'll help create a safer environment for colleagues, prisoners, visitors and partners by leading and promoting effective fire safety practices across the contract.

Your work will have a direct impact on protecting people, property and operations while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.

By developing fire safety strategies, delivering training, overseeing emergency preparedness and driving continuous improvement, you'll help create impactful solutions that strengthen trust, resilience and safety.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive fire risk assessments and identify opportunities to reduce and manage fire‑related risks.
• Develop, review and implement fire safety policies, procedures and guidance in line with regulatory and contractual requirements.
• Deliver and support fire safety and Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE) training programmes for colleagues.
• Develop, maintain and test emergency response and business continuity plans, including coordinating fire drills and exercises.
• Liaise with facilities management teams to ensure fire safety equipment, alarms, extinguishers and related systems are maintained and operational.
• Investigate fire incidents, produce reports, analyse trends and present fire safety performance information to leadership forums.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and relevant fire safety legislation, standards and guidance.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to engage and influence people at all levels.
• Experience of conducting risk assessments and implementing effective safety controls.
• Good IT, literacy and numeracy skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office, Microsoft Teams and Share Point.
• Ability to work independently, manage priorities and maintain accurate records and reports.
• Vetting and Checks
• An Enhanced DBS check is required for this role.

This includes spent and unspent convictions, cautions, and any relevant information held by local police, in accordance with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and safeguarding requirements.

• You will also complete an Occupational Health Questionnaire to allow us to provide any support needed for you to succeed in the role.
