Join VIVO and Make a Difference Where It Matters Most

Are you a practical, hands‑on professional who takes pride in delivering high‑quality work? Do you enjoy variety in your day, working independently, and solving problems? If so, we want to hear from you.

VIVO is seeking a Multi‑Skilled Operative to join our growing team supporting the UK Defence estate. This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a business dedicated to maintaining and improving critical infrastructure for those who serve our country.

The Role

Reporting to the Built Estate Manager, you'll play a key role in supporting military sites through a variety of maintenance, compliance, and operational activities. No two days are the same, and you'll have the opportunity to use your practical skills while contributing directly to the smooth running of important Defence facilities. Working with minimal supervision, you'll be trusted to assess situations, identify the most appropriate repair solutions, and deliver work to the highest standards.

Your work will involve carrying out a range of general maintenance and handyman tasks, supporting site operations, undertaking weekly flushing of little‑used water outlets, completing fire alarm testing, and assisting with de‑leading activities on firing ranges. You may also operate plant and machinery, with full training provided where required. A key part of the role will be accurately recording completed work, updating schedules, identifying issues that require escalation, and ensuring all health and safety documentation is in place before commencing any task. You'll regularly liaise with military personnel, Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) representatives and supply chain partners, while also supporting apprentices and participating in team briefings, toolbox talks and ongoing training activities.

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who is reliable, adaptable and committed to delivering excellent customer service. You will hold a full UK Driving Licence and have previous experience within a handyman, maintenance or semi‑skilled trade environment. You should be comfortable working independently, using your initiative to solve problems and make decisions regarding the most appropriate repair solutions. Strong communication skills are essential, along with the ability to follow written and verbal instructions. You will be comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions and have experience using hand tools safely and effectively. Basic IT skills, particularly email communication, are also required. You must be able to pass SC Clearance to be eligible for this role. Experience operating plant and machinery and holding relevant certifications would be advantageous, as would previous experience working within facilities management, maintenance, construction or Defence environments. As part of this role, you will be required to take blood tests every 6 months to monitor lead levels.

Why Join VIVO?

This is an opportunity to join a growing organisation delivering essential services across the UK Defence sector. You'll enjoy a varied and rewarding role where your contribution has a direct impact on the environments used by military personnel every day. We invest in our people through ongoing training and development opportunities, provide a supportive team environment and offer the chance to build a long‑term career within a business committed to excellence and continuous improvement.

Ready to Take the Next Step?

If you’re a practical problem‑solver who enjoys working with your hands, takes pride in delivering quality work and wants to be part of something bigger, we’d love to hear from you. Apply today and help us keep the Defence estate operating at its very best.
