Role Overview
We are looking for an exceptional Built Estate Manager to lead the delivery of maintenance, response works, and estate management services across a diverse property portfolio. This highly visible and influential role will ensure statutory compliance, drive operational excellence, lead teams, manage budgets, and build trusted relationships with key stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Lead the delivery of all maintenance and response works, ensuring full compliance with statutory legislation, Ministry of Defence (MoD) requirements, and health, safety, and environmental standards.
- Oversee operational planning and performance, managing work programmes, budgets, and resources to meet changing priorities while delivering value for money.
- Provide technical leadership to mitigate compliance risks and chair Site Risk Meetings as required.
- Ensure all maintenance documentation is accurate, timely, and correctly recorded within asset systems, and maintain and update key estate planning documents such as ESTS and FASP.
- Work closely with Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) representatives and stakeholders to agree priorities, coordinate delivery, and ensure works are completed to the required standards, with full and timely handover.
- Lead and develop your team, creating a high-performance culture through clear direction, coaching, and effective people management.
- Maintain strong relationships with customers and resolve issues professionally.
- Drive commercial performance by managing budgets, monitoring profit and loss, controlling costs, and overseeing supply chain performance to ensure efficient, high-quality service delivery.
- Identify opportunities to improve sustainability and support carbon reduction targets, embedding innovative and efficient solutions across the estate.
Qualifications & Experience
- Significant experience in facilities maintenance, property maintenance, estate management, or related environments.
- Proven track record of managing operational delivery, leading teams to achieve KPIs, maintaining strong customer relationships, and planning, directing, and controlling a wide range of activities.
- Experience managing site operations, setting priorities, proactive performance management, and leading continuous improvement initiatives.
- A HND-level qualification in Building/Civil Engineering, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline is desirable, but equivalent experience will also be considered.
- A management-level qualification in Health & Safety and Environment, such as SMSTS, is highly valued.
- Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications such as Excel and Word; commitment to ongoing professional development.
- Experience within a MoD environment advantageous, with working knowledge of CDM regulations, asbestos legislation, disability access requirements, and energy performance standards.
- Membership of relevant professional bodies such as the British Institute of Facilities Management or Institute of Leadership and Management beneficial, as is a NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent qualification.
