We are seeking an experienced Mechanical / Petroleum Engineer to play a critical role in the safe, compliant and efficient delivery of maintenance and billable works across the Defence estate. This role is central to ensuring full compliance with JSP 375, supporting operational delivery while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality and performance.
You will take responsibility for the practical implementation and day-to-day operation of Safe Systems of Work, providing expert technical leadership across planned and reactive maintenance activities. Acting as a subject matter expert, you will produce and review high-quality Risk Assessments, Method Statements and Permits to Work, assess the competence of Skilled Persons, and ensure that only suitably qualified and experienced operatives are appointed to carry out specialist tasks.
Working closely with Authorising Engineers, site teams, the supply chain, DIO and end users, you will provide professional advice, technical assurance and operational support. You will ensure accurate recording of works within Maximo, maintain Authorised Person documentation, manage risk registers and proactively drive the reduction and closure of corrective actions. You will also identify opportunities to support the MoD’s carbon reduction targets and contribute to technical reports and safety documentation across your area of responsibility.
From a commercial perspective, you will support effective cost control, manage stakeholder expectations and contribute to risk mitigation, budgets and technical submissions, ensuring operations are delivered efficiently and represent value for money.
About you:
You will hold an HND (or equivalent experience) in Mechanical, Electrical or a related engineering discipline, alongside management-level Health & Safety qualifications such as SMSTS, IOSH or NEBOSH. You will bring significant hands‑on experience of operating Safe Systems of Work under JSP 375, supervising site operations and managing skilled technical teams. You will be confident working independently, making sound technical decisions and collaborating effectively with a wide range of stakeholders. Strong communication skills, a proactive mindset and a commitment to continuous professional development are essential. Experience within electrical, petroleum or pressure systems environments is highly desirable, as is prior completion of DIO‑recognised Authorised Person training (AP Mech, AP PET or AP Elec).
This is a 12 month Fixed Term Contract.
What We Offer:
- Single private medical cover
- Life assurance 2x annual salary
- 6% employee matched pension contribution
- 25 days annual leave
