We have an opportunity for an experienced Operations Engineer to join our Defence team in Hereford.
About the role
This hands-on BAU role will help keep our core systems and platforms secure, reliable and running smoothly. You’ll work across Linux and Windows environments, networking, firewalls, virtualisation, MDM and cloud services, following defined processes and escalation routes.
- Location: Hereford office

- Reports to: Head of Engineering
- Security clearance: SC required, with potential for DV clearance in the future.
What you’ll be doing
- Monitoring system health, performance and availability, and completing routine maintenance, patching and security remediation.
- Investigating and resolving infrastructure, networking and platform incidents in line with SLAs, escalating complex or recurring issues where needed.
- Raising and implementing controlled changes, including updates and firmware, with appropriate testing, documentation and rollback planning.
- Maintaining accurate records and identifying practical improvements to stability, performance and operational efficiency.
What we’re looking for
- Experience in an operations or infrastructure support role across Linux and Windows environments.
- Good knowledge of networking, firewalls, virtualisation and cloud platforms, with a controlled and methodical approach to troubleshooting.
- Experience of ITIL-aligned incident, change and problem management, ticketing or ITSM platforms, and monitoring and alerting tools.
- Able to work autonomously in a fast-paced environment while following defined processes and security standards.
- A full UK driving licence and the right to live and work in the UK. ITIL Foundation or relevant technical certifications are desirable.
