What is the job?

To effectively manage, control and identify Waste Brokering opportunities (Nationally, with a focus on key regional networks) with the objective of delivering incremental and profitable revenue and building a supplier and offtake network. You must be a knowledgeable and proactive materials broker with experience in the waste sector, specifically C& I supply chains, able to coordinate the disposal, treatment, recycling and transportation of waste materials. The role involves acting as the intermediary between waste producers and licensed waste treatment outlets, ensuring profitable and compliant waste solutions optimising the utilisation of Sera’s walking floor and skip fleet. This role will be based at our Head Office in Widnes, with the requirement for regular site visits to supplier and material treatment sites. Working Schedule: Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive incremental Revenue with a focus on profitability
  • Source and manage relationships with waste producers and disposal/recycling service providers
  • Identify and engage potential suppliers/clients to promote brokerage services
  • Analyse client/supplier needs and provide tailored waste management solutions
  • Negotiate contracts/pricing/rates between all parties to maximise margins and ensure service efficiency
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of market trends, regulations, legislation, products and sustainability practices
  • Resolve service issues and coordinate logistics with hauliers and treatment facilities
  • Prepare and manage documentation, records and any data required
  • Ensure compliance with environmental legislation and waste regulations
  • Monitor and track waste movements using relevant documentation (waste transfer notes)
  • Build, maintain and grow strong supplier/client relationships
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure high quality service delivery
  • Be continually focused on making the right commercial decisions to grow the business and drive incremental revenue
  • Deliver brokered waste/materials treatment services generating revenue and profitability as agreed with the Procurement Business Manager.

People Management

As required, manage, guide and develop a small brokering team.

Reporting

Develop, implement and deliver effective and comprehensive performance reports. Provide accurate reporting to suppliers/clients and internal stakeholders.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Essential

  • Proven experience in delivering waste brokerage models or similar relevant role
  • Established network of clients or industry contracts
  • Knowledge of circular economy and sustainability initiatives
  • Excellent negotiation, communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to analyse data and propose cost-effective waste solutions
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet targets
  • Strong organisational and multitasking abilities
  • Understanding of legal requirements for waste deliveries

Desirable

  • Proficient in relevant software and tools
  • Proficient in Microsoft Applications
