Seras is on the lookout for top talent to join our innovative and results-oriented team. Seras is the UK’s number one supplier of biomass fuel, with long-term contracts in place to supply nearly 2 million tonnes of fuel to Energy Recovery Facilities, generating renewable energy equivalent to the annual domestic electricity needs of 2% of the UK population.
We are seeking a commercially driven and entrepreneurial Business Development Manager to join our dynamic team. This role is focused on identifying, originating, and developing new projects and partnerships within the sustainable fuels and waste-to-energy sectors, with an emphasis on maximizing value from high-biogenic waste streams and feedstocks.
Working Schedule: Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week.
Key Responsibilities:
- Project Development: Identify and secure land, feedstock sources, permits, and strategic opportunities for commercially and operationally viable projects in accordance with company objectives.
- Feedstock Management: Develop and expand supply chains for anaerobic digestion (AD), biochar, biomass, and biogas feedstocks, ensuring long-term sustainability and commercial value.
- Strategic Partnerships: Build and foster relationships with stakeholders, including suppliers, regulators, and industry partners, to drive collaboration and business growth.
- M&A and Joint Ventures: Support business expansion through scouting and evaluating potential mergers, acquisitions, and joint venture opportunities aligned with our growth strategy.
- Sales & Commercial Strategy: Contribute to sales efforts by identifying and developing high-value feedstock opportunities that enhance revenue streams and market positioning.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise:
Essential:
- Proven experience in business development, commercial strategy, or project development within the waste, renewable energy, or environmental sectors.
- Understanding of permitting, licensing, and planning regimes for energy/waste infrastructure.
- Skilled in developing commercial agreements and deal structures.
- Strong stakeholder engagement, networking, and relationship-building capabilities.
- Self-starter with a track record of independently driving opportunities to completion.
- Comfortable working in an entrepreneurial, fast-moving environment.
- A positive, can-do behaviour which is adaptive to change, resilient and eager to accept new challenges within a fast-paced delivery environment.
- Ability to analyse technical and commercial aspects of developments and apply solutions in terms of time, cost, quality, and best use of available resources.
- Proficient in the application of standard Microsoft Office tools Word, Excel, Power Point, Project etc.
- Driver’s License with a willingness to travel.
Desirable:
- Degree or equivalent in Environmental Science, Engineering, Business, or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of organic waste streams, anaerobic digestion, biomass, or related technologies.
- Experience with GIS, feedstock mapping, or waste data analytics.
- Understanding of ESG investment drivers and circular economy business models.
