Are you an experienced Electrical Design Engineer / Estimator with strong power distribution knowledge and experience estimating DNO projects? Due to continued growth, we are looking to recruit an experienced Electrical Design Engineer / Estimator to join our expanding design team, based in either Bellshill or Livingston. This is an excellent opportunity to work on a wide range of electrical infrastructure projects, supporting schemes from initial enquiry and design through to installation and commissioning.
The Role
- You’ll be responsible for producing safe, compliant and commercially viable electrical designs, while supporting the preparation of estimates for DNO and power infrastructure projects.
- Working closely with project teams, clients, DNOs, IDNOs and local authorities, you’ll ensure designs meet the required technical, regulatory and commercial standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce electrical network designs for power distribution and infrastructure projects
- Prepare estimates for DNO projects, primarily within Scotland
- Develop safe, compliant and cost-effective electrical designs
- Design LV and HV electrical infrastructure in line with relevant standards
- Liaise with DNOs, IDNOs, ICPs, local authorities and statutory bodies
- Review project requirements and develop appropriate design solutions
- Produce technical drawings, specifications, calculations and design packs
- Support projects from concept and detailed design through to installation and commissioning
- Work closely with project delivery teams throughout the project lifecycle
- Ensure all designs comply with relevant industry standards, specifications and accreditation requirements
- Assist with design reviews, technical queries and project variations
- Support the commercial team with accurate cost estimates and material requirements
About You
We’re looking for an experienced Electrical Design Engineer, Electrical Estimator or Power Design Engineer with a background in utility infrastructure and a strong understanding of the Scottish DNO environment.
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience as an Electrical Design Engineer, Power Design Engineer, Electrical Estimator or similar
- Strong background in electrical utilities / power distribution
- Experience estimating DNO projects in Scotland
- Good understanding of DNO / IDNO / ICP standards and specifications
- Experience designing electrical infrastructure and distribution networks
- Knowledge of LV/HV electrical systems
- HNC/HND (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
- Proficient with relevant electrical design and estimating software
- Strong technical documentation and design-pack preparation skills
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and work effectively with internal and external stakeholders
Desirable
- Experience working with SP Energy Networks / SPEN
- Previous experience within an ICP, IDNO, DNO or utilities contractor
- Knowledge of G81, ENA and relevant DNO specifications
- Experience with Windebut, ConnectGrid or similar design software
- Experience with electrical infrastructure for new connections, housing developments or commercial projects
- Understanding of cable sizing, transformer selection, substation design and network capacity
