An established and growing engineering consultancy within the energy infrastructure sector is seeking a Civil CAD Technician to support the delivery of major projects across Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), substations, and renewable energy infrastructure. This is an excellent opportunity to join a specialist engineering team working on a diverse portfolio of projects supporting the UK's energy transition.

The Role

The successful candidate will support the production and coordination of civil design packages, transforming engineer mark-ups, sketches, and survey information into accurate, high-quality, buildable drawings. Working closely with engineers and fellow technicians, you will contribute to projects from concept through to construction, gaining exposure to a broad range of civil and structural engineering activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce and update civil engineering drawings for energy infrastructure projects
  • Prepare General Arrangement (GA) drawings and site layouts
  • Develop drainage, earthworks, and civil detailing drawings
  • Produce cable duct and trench layouts and associated details
  • Prepare concrete, reinforced concrete (RC), and steelwork drawings
  • Generate ground investigation layouts and supporting design information
  • Support temporary works design, including haul roads, working platforms, and site access arrangements
  • Work from survey data, engineer mark-ups, and sketches to create accurate construction-ready drawings
  • Maintain drawing standards and quality throughout project delivery
  • Collaborate closely with engineers, technicians, and project teams

Project Exposure

Typical projects include:

  • Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) developments
  • Electrical substations
  • Renewable energy infrastructure
  • Civil works associated with power and utility networks

The Team

You will be part of a close-knit engineering team, working alongside experienced civil engineers and design professionals who can provide technical support and mentoring. The role also offers opportunities for site visits, providing valuable exposure to construction activities and helping develop a practical understanding of how designs are implemented on site.

Requirements

Essential

  • 2-6 years' experience in a Civil CAD Technician or similar role
  • Strong proficiency in AutoCAD
  • Experience working on civil engineering or infrastructure projects
  • Ability to interpret sketches, mark-ups, and survey information and produce accurate technical drawings
  • Good understanding of civil engineering drawing standards and detailing
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a collaborative team environment

Desirable

  • Experience using Civil 3D
  • BIM knowledge and experience
  • Experience within the energy, utilities, or infrastructure sectors
  • Exposure to RC detailing, steelwork detailing, and temporary works layouts
