An established and growing fire safety business is looking for an experienced Service & Small Works Manager to oversee service delivery and small projects across a national client base. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone within the fire industry who wants to take ownership of a department, improve operational processes, support a technical team, and play a key role in the continued growth of the business.

The role will focus on the successful delivery of service and small works projects across fire suppression and fire detection systems, managing projects typically valued up to £100,000.

The Role

As the Service & Small Works Manager, you will be responsible for the safe, compliant and efficient delivery of service works and small projects. You will oversee day-to-day operations, coordinate engineers and scheduling support, manage technical delivery, and ensure customers receive a high standard of service throughout. This role would suit someone who enjoys operational leadership, technical problem-solving, customer management and improving departmental performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operational Delivery
    • Manage service and small works projects from start to completion
    • Coordinate labour, materials, scheduling and subcontractors
    • Ensure works are delivered safely, on time and within budget
    • Monitor project progress and proactively resolve issues
    • Support continuous improvement across operational processes
  • Commercial & Financial Management
    • Monitor project costs, variations and expenditure
    • Support cost control and commercial decision-making
    • Improve efficiencies while maintaining compliance and quality standards
  • Technical & Compliance Oversight
    • Provide technical leadership across fire suppression and detection works
    • Ensure compliance with British Standards, Codes of Practice and industry regulations
    • Act as a technical escalation point for engineers and customers
    • Maintain high standards of documentation and workmanship
  • Customer & Team Management
    • Build strong relationships with customers, suppliers and internal teams
    • Manage customer expectations through clear communication
    • Line manage scheduling and support staff
    • Support training, mentoring and development within the team

Requirements

Essential

  • Experience managing service and/or small works projects within the fire industry
  • Strong knowledge of fire suppression and fire detection systems
  • Understanding of relevant British Standards and Codes of Practice
  • Knowledge of: BAFE SP203-1, BAFE SP203-3, LPS 1014, LPS 1204
  • Experience managing project costs and commercial performance
  • Previous supervisory or team leadership experience
  • Strong communication, planning and organisational skills
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Flexibility to travel when required

Desirable

  • IOSH Managing Safely or SMSTS
  • CSCS card
  • ILM Level 5/7 or similar management qualification
  • Chartered Engineer status or working towards CEng
