Overview
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Event Technician (Vision Engineer) to join our growing technical team based in Manchester. Working across a diverse portfolio of corporate, commercial and private events, you will be responsible for the preparation, installation, operation and maintenance of professional vision systems for live, virtual and hybrid productions. This is a varied and hands-on role that combines warehouse preparation, technical planning and onsite event delivery. You will work with a wide range of technologies including LED displays, projection systems, presentation switchers, screen management systems, video playback solutions and live streaming platforms to deliver exceptional event experiences.
As part of a department of 17 technicians, supported by a dedicated scheduling team, you will play a key role in projects ranging from small-scale productions through to major events with budgets exceeding £1 million. The role offers the opportunity to lead freelance crews, contribute to the development of the Vision department and work alongside some of the industry's latest technologies. Flexibility is essential, as the position will involve travel throughout the UK and occasional evening and weekend work in line with event schedules.
Key Responsibilities
- Rig, configure and operate vision systems for a wide variety of live, virtual and hybrid events, ensuring the highest standards of technical delivery and client satisfaction.
- Work collaboratively with internal teams whilst leading and supervising freelance crew onsite, representing the company professionally at all times.
- Communicate effectively with clients, suppliers, venue staff and production crews during the planning and delivery of events.
- Prepare, maintain, test and troubleshoot vision equipment within warehouse facilities, ensuring equipment is presented and maintained to the highest standard.
- Support the Head of Vision in developing, maintaining and continuously improving the Vision department, processes and technical capabilities.
- Manage equipment logistics, including deliveries and collections using company vehicles, whilst assisting other technical departments when required to support business needs.
Essential Requirements
- Minimum 2 years' experience as a Vision Engineer within the live events industry, ideally within the corporate events sector.
- Extensive knowledge and practical live event experience using Barco Event Master screen management systems.
- Knowledge and operational experience of professional presentation switchers and video routing systems.
- Experience working with modular LED display systems and associated processing technologies.
- Knowledge and operational experience of Panasonic projection systems.
- Extensive experience using presentation and video playback software within live event environments.
- Knowledge and practical experience delivering live streamed events and video communication solutions.
- Excellent communication, organisational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a wider team.
- High standard of personal presentation and professionalism.
- Ability to perform effectively under pressure and to tight deadlines.
- Flexible approach to working hours, including evenings, weekends, overnight stays and travel when required.
- Highly self-motivated with the ability to lead by example and take ownership of projects.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining equipment to the highest presentation standards.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
