Location: Scotland - Central Belt

Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced LV/HV Cable Jointer to undertake jointing, terminating, testing, fault-finding, and installation activities on underground electrical distribution networks. The successful candidate will hold current Scottish Power (SPEN) authorisations and demonstrate experience working on LV and HV networks up to 33kV. The role includes both contestable and non-contestable works across the SP Energy Networks distribution area, ensuring all tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and in line with DNO procedures and industry standards. Candidates must hold the relevant competency assessments and authorisations required for the voltage levels and activities being carried out.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out LV and HV cable jointing and termination works on underground distribution networks.
  • Install and terminate PILC and polymeric cables up to 33kV.
  • Work in accordance with safety rules and Approved Written Procedures (AWPs).
  • Complete testing, commissioning, and all associated documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality standards.
  • Liaise effectively with supervisors, project managers, DNO representatives, and site teams.
  • Maintain company vehicles, tools, PPE, and testing equipment to a high standard.

Essential Requirements

  • Current LV and HV jointing authorisations.
  • Proven experience working on electrical distribution network projects.
  • Experience in LV mains and service jointing.
  • Experience in HV cable jointing and terminations up to 11kV / 33kV.
  • Good understanding of safety rules and Approved Written Procedures.
  • Relevant industry qualifications in cable jointing or electrical power engineering.
  • ECS / CSCS card.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Ability to read and interpret network drawings and cable records.
  • Strong understanding of safe systems of work and risk assessments.

Desirable Requirements

  • Authorised Person (AP) status.
  • Experience working with PILC and XLPE cable systems.
  • EUSR / SHEA Power certification.
  • First Aid qualification.
  • Confined Space training.
  • Experience on contestable utility projects.
  • Experience with substations and switchgear installations.
