We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Authorised Person (SAP) to oversee and manage electrical operations across LV/HV distribution networks and substations. This is a key operational role responsible for the safe planning, coordination, isolation, and execution of electrical works in line with industry safety standards and operational procedures. The successful candidate will bring strong technical expertise, leadership capability, and experience operating within live network environments across contestable and non-contestable projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Acting as SAP under applicable safety rules and operational procedures
  • Preparing, issuing, and cancelling: Permits-to-Work, Sanctions-for-Test, Limitations-of-Access
  • Carrying out HV/LV switching, isolation, earthing, and restoration activities
  • Planning and coordinating outages with operational and control teams
  • Ensuring all works are completed safely and in accordance with Approved Written Procedures (AWPs)
  • Supervising site teams, contractors, jointers, fitters, and subcontractors
  • Conducting toolbox talks, site audits, risk assessments, and method statement reviews
  • Supporting commissioning, testing, and energisation activities
  • Liaising with clients, project managers, ICPs, and DNO representatives
  • Maintaining accurate operational and safety documentation
  • Participating in standby and emergency response duties where required

Essential Requirements

  • Current SAP authorisation
  • Proven operational experience on electrical distribution infrastructure
  • Strong understanding of LV/HV network operations and safety compliance
  • Experience managing HV switching and isolation activities
  • Experience working on substations and distribution networks
  • Excellent understanding of operational procedures and safe systems of work
  • Ability to read and interpret network schematics and operational diagrams
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Strong communication, leadership, and organisational skills

Desirable Experience & Certifications

  • Authorisations up to 33kV or higher
  • Experience with primary substations and switching stations
  • NERS / ICP project experience
  • Operational planning and outage management experience
  • IOSH or NEBOSH qualification
  • EUSR SHEA Power certification
  • First Aid and Emergency Response training
  • Experience mentoring junior APs and SAPs

Qualifications

  • HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering or Power Engineering
  • City & Guilds Electrical qualifications
  • DNO operational authorisations
  • HV switching and operational training
  • Safety Rules training and competency assessments
