The Opportunity
We are looking to appoint an experienced and high-calibre Works Manager to oversee the delivery of civil engineering and earthworks projects across the UK. This role is suited to someone who thrives in a hands-on, self-delivery environment, not a purely management-based Tier 1 setting. You will play a key role in driving productivity, managing plant operations, and leading teams on site to deliver complex infrastructure schemes. We are taking a selective approach to this hire and are keen to engage with top-quality candidates over the coming months to find the right long-term fit.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day site operations across multiple projects
- Manage site teams, subcontractors, and resources effectively
- Ensure works are delivered safely, on programme, and within budget
- Take ownership of plant operations and earthworks activities
- Coordinate with clients, engineers, and senior management
- Maintain high standards of quality, compliance, and HSEQ
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a Works Manager (or similar senior site leadership) role
- Proven background in a self-delivery contractor environment (not solely Tier 1/main contractor management)
- Strong experience managing plant operations and large-scale earthworks
- Experience working on onshore wind farms and/or major cable connection projects (highly desirable)
- Strong leadership, organisational, and communication skills
- Full UK driving licence
Working Hours
Working hours will align with site operations and will vary by project. Typically: Monday to Friday: 07:00 – 18:00 (with 1 hour unpaid break). Additional hours and weekend work may be required to meet project demands.
Package & Benefits
- Competitive salary: £55,000 – £65,000 (Pro-Rata)
- Overtime: £30 per hour (after 5 hours on Saturday and all hours Sunday)
- Company vehicle provided (currently Toyota Hilux Invincible X)
- Lodge allowance: Up to £65 per night
- 25 days holiday + public holidays
- Pension: 3% Employer / 5% Employee
- Private medical insurance (currently BUPA – single cover)
Location & Travel
You will be required to work across various sites throughout Wales, North West England, and Yorkshire, with occasional travel further afield.
