An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced and hands-on Mechanical Engineer to join a well-established engineering and manufacturing business based in Huddersfield. Our client is seeking a practical and proactive engineer with strong troubleshooting abilities and a passion for solving technical challenges. This role would suit an individual who enjoys working directly with machinery, equipment, and production processes while taking ownership of faults and driving effective solutions.
The successful candidate will possess a strong mechanical background, experience working with workshop machinery, and the ability to support both mechanical and basic electrical maintenance activities.
Key Responsibilities- Diagnose and resolve mechanical faults and equipment breakdowns.
- Carry out hands-on troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
- Operate workshop machinery including lathes and pillar drills.
- Perform fabrication, repair, and modification work where required.
- Undertake soldering and welding tasks to support engineering and maintenance activities.
- Carry out basic electrical fault-finding and repair work.
- Assist with machinery installation, commissioning, and continuous improvement projects.
- Support production operations by minimising downtime and improving equipment reliability.
- Ensure all work is completed safely and in accordance with company and industry standards.
- Proven experience within a mechanical engineering, maintenance engineering, or manufacturing environment.
- Excellent problem-solving and fault-finding skills.
- Experience operating lathes and pillar drills.
- Strong hands-on troubleshooting abilities.
- Basic electrical skills and fault-finding experience.
- Soldering and welding experience.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
