Location: Suffolk

£60,000 - £80,000 plus commission, company car/allowance, fuel card/mileage, phone, pension and 29 days holiday inclusive of statutory days.

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Business Development Manager to lead sales and business growth within the water engineering sector. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and executing sales strategies that drive expansion across our services, with a particular focus on water-based civils and infrastructure works. This role requires a strong understanding of the water engineering industry, proven business development expertise, and the ability to build long-term, high-value client relationships that support sustainable company growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive business development strategies to achieve growth targets within the water engineering and environmental solutions sector.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities with both public and private sector clients, including government bodies, municipalities, frameworks, and industrial partners.
  • Manage the full business development cycle, from lead generation through to tendering, negotiation, and contract close, ensuring alignment with project delivery teams.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients, stakeholders, and industry partners.
  • Lead negotiations and secure major project wins, ensuring both profitability and customer satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with engineering, project management, and marketing teams to align business development efforts with operational capacity and market trends.
  • Prepare and deliver proposals, tenders, design submissions, presentations, and strategic reports for clients and senior management.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in business development or sales leadership within water engineering, environmental solutions, or related infrastructure sectors.
  • Strong technical understanding of lake, wetland, reservoir, flood defence, dredging, and river restoration projects.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strategic client relationships and win large, complex contracts.
  • Willingness to travel to meet clients, attend industry events, and represent the business.
