Are you an experienced Service Manager, Engineering Manager, Operations Manager or Site Manager ready to take ownership of a UK-wide service operation? We're looking for a hands-on engineering leader who can bring structure to a busy service operation, lead from the front and build strong relationships with both customers and engineers.

As Head of Service, you will lead the UK Service & Engineering function, overseeing a team of Service Engineers and subcontractors across a varied portfolio of service, maintenance, installation, upgrade, rebuild and commissioning work. This is a genuinely varied role. One day you could be reviewing project costs and allocating engineers; the next you could be visiting a customer site, resolving a technical issue or supporting an installation. You'll have the opportunity to influence how the service department operates and play a major part in its future growth.

Location: Leeds

Salary: £45,000 – £55,000 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications

Hours: 37 hours per week

Benefits: Company car and company phone

Travel: UK-wide travel, with regular customer site visits and occasional overnight stays

Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Take ownership of UK service operations and day-to-day delivery.
  • Plan and schedule engineers, workloads and field activities.
  • Allocate resources effectively and manage changing priorities.
  • Monitor engineer utilisation, service performance and response times.
  • Manage reactive and emergency breakdown requirements.
  • Ensure service records, reports and engineer timekeeping are accurate.
  • Coordinating engineers, subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Managing site activities and project progress.
  • Conduct site surveys and technical assessments.
  • Estimate labour, material and engineering requirements.
  • Monitor service profitability and margins.
  • Identify opportunities for service contracts, upgrades and business.

To apply you must have or hold:

  • Proven experience leading service, engineering, site or operations teams.
  • Strong experience within engineering, industrial machinery, manufacturing or electro-hydraulic environments.
  • Good hydraulic and mechanical knowledge.
  • Experience managing field service engineers and site activities.
  • Experience producing quotations and project costings.
  • Strong project management capability.
  • Good knowledge of health & safety requirements and RAMS.
  • Excellent customer-facing and communication skills.
  • Strong planning and organisational ability.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.

Desirable:

  • HNC/HND or degree in an engineering discipline.
  • IOSH Managing Safely or NEBOSH.
  • PRINCE2, APM or other project management qualification.
  • Experience with CMMS, ERP or service management systems.
  • Experience managing customer projects.
