We are looking for an experienced Shift Engineer - Electrical Bias to join our engineering team at our Ripley manufacturing site. This is a hands-on engineering role within a busy manufacturing environment, supporting the reliable and efficient operation of production equipment, site services and facilities. You will work as part of a team of engineers, reporting to the Shift Team Leader, with a strong focus on preventative maintenance, fault finding and continuous improvement.
Our site includes a mixture of 50-year-old machinery through to modern automated equipment incorporating robotics, providing a varied and technically challenging working environment.
The Shift Pattern
You will work a rotating three-shift system:
- Morning Shift: Monday-Thursday: 06:00-14:15, Friday: 06:00-14:00
- Afternoon Shift: Monday-Thursday: 14:00-22:15, Friday: 13:00-18:15
- Night Shift: Sunday-Wednesday: 22:00-06:15, Thursday: 22:00-06:00, finishing Friday morning
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance across the site.
- Diagnose and repair electrical and mechanical faults to minimise downtime.
- Maintain safe, compliant and reliable operation of manufacturing machinery and site services.
- Troubleshoot electrical control systems, sensors, instrumentation and automation equipment.
- Work proactively to identify potential failures and prevent unplanned downtime.
- Support continuous improvement activities across production and engineering.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and communicate faults, repairs and ongoing issues effectively.
- Work collaboratively with production and other departments to resolve equipment issues quickly and effectively.
- Ensure all work is completed in accordance with company safety procedures, engineering standards and relevant legislation.
Equipment & Systems You Will Work On
The successful candidate will have exposure to a broad range of industrial equipment and electrical systems, including:
- Three-phase and single-phase motors
- Motor control systems
- PLC and relay control systems/logic
- Automated machinery and robotic systems
- Sensors for pressure, position, temperature and other process parameters
- Process instrumentation and controllers
- Pumps and associated equipment
- Boilers and compressors
- Lighting and electrical services
- Sockets and distribution boards
- Three linear production lines
- Three preparation departments
- Warehouse, offices, buildings and wider site facilities
You will be working across a diverse range of equipment, from legacy machinery to modern automated and robotic production systems.
About You
We are looking for an electrically biased engineer who is confident working in a manufacturing environment and enjoys fault finding and problem solving. You will ideally have:
- Proven industrial maintenance experience.
- A recognised Level 3 engineering qualification in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Maintenance, Mechatronics, Food & Drink Engineering Maintenance, Maintenance & Operations Engineering, Electrotechnical Systems, or an equivalent overseas qualification.
- Strong electrical fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
- Experience working with PPM and reactive maintenance.
- A good understanding of electrical control systems, motors, PLCs and instrumentation.
- Demonstrable mechanical aptitude.
- The ability to work effectively as part of a team and communicate with colleagues across different departments.
- A proactive, continuous-improvement mindset.
- The ability to work safely and methodically in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
