About the Role

We’re working with an established and growing IT services business that is looking for an experienced Technical Consultant to join their team. This is a varied, hands-on position that combines technical consultancy, presales, project delivery and escalations. You’ll play a key role in understanding client requirements, designing and delivering technical solutions, and supporting the wider technical team when complex issues arise. The role would suit someone who enjoys working directly with customers, taking ownership of projects from initial design through to completion, and acting as the technical point of reference within an MSP environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with clients to understand their technical requirements and recommend appropriate solutions.
  • Support presales activities, including technical discovery, solution design, scoping and client presentations.
  • Take ownership of technical projects from initial planning and design through to implementation and handover.
  • Lead and deliver infrastructure, cloud, Microsoft 365 and networking projects.
  • Act as a senior escalation point for the Service Desk, providing guidance and resolving complex technical issues.
  • Produce technical documentation, project plans and solution designs.
  • Work alongside the Service Desk, Project and Account Management teams to ensure successful client outcomes.
  • Provide technical consultancy and guidance to customers throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Identify opportunities to improve client infrastructure, security and overall IT environments.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope and to a high technical standard.

About You

We’re looking for someone with strong technical knowledge who can operate comfortably across both technical delivery and client-facing consultancy. You’ll ideally have:

  • Previous experience working within an MSP / Managed Services environment.
  • Experience delivering IT infrastructure and cloud projects from start to finish.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft 365 and Azure.
  • Good understanding of networking, servers, virtualisation and cybersecurity.
  • Experience supporting or designing technical solutions for customers.
  • Previous involvement in presales, solution design or technical scoping.
  • The ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical escalations.
  • Strong communication and client-facing skills.
  • Excellent organisation and project ownership skills.
  • A genuine desire to develop technically and take ownership of your work.

What’s on Offer?

  • Salary up to £50,000, depending on experience.
  • Potential commission on top of salary.
  • A varied role combining consultancy, presales, project delivery and escalations.
  • The opportunity to work on interesting and technically challenging projects.
  • A position with genuine responsibility and client interaction.
  • Career development within a growing IT services environment.

How to prepare for a job interview at SER Limited

Brush Up on Your Technical Skills

For an IT consulting role, be ready to demonstrate your technical prowess. You might face questions on systems integration, cloud technologies, or even troubleshooting specific software. If you have experience with tools like AWS, Azure, or even specific programming languages, make sure you can talk about them fluently.

Showcase Your Problem-Solving Approach

IT consulting is all about solving problems for clients. Think about how you can illustrate your approach to a past challenge using the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result). It's a great way to show how you tackle complex issues and come up with effective solutions.

Know the Business Impact of IT Solutions

When discussing your experiences, focus not just on the tech solutions you implemented, but also on their business impact. Employers want to see that you can connect IT with organisational goals. Prep examples that highlight how your tech contributions improved efficiency or reduced costs for past clients or projects.

Prepare for Behavioural Questions

Since IT consulting often involves teamwork and client interactions, expect behavioural questions that assess your interpersonal skills. Be prepared with examples that demonstrate your adaptability, communication skills, and how you handle client feedback. Before the interview, think of situations where you worked closely with clients to create effective IT strategies or changes.
